A group of young adults from His House Church in Michigan has been travelling to Lakeland for many years to volunteer. They are affectionately known to staff as “Michigan!” In May as they were going through orientation in the Community Center, staff was in the office making the hard decision to cancel the afterschool program for one week due to so many having to quarantine – the only time this school year that was necessary! Michigan asked to meet alone and decide what to do as their plans, hopes, and dreams for working with students all week had been radically changed.
Michigan stayed! God used them mightily to deep clean, organize classrooms, bookshelves, and closets, and to begin prepping for Summer Camp. And in their final two hours here, Michigan was able to play with neighborhood children. “I learned to hold things loosely and surrender even all the little things to God so that I am constantly ready to serve, even if and when things change.” – Abby.
