Parker Street Ministries (PSM) has been recognized by CareerSource Polk as one of the 2024 Best Places to Work in the Small Business Category (1-50 employees). This recognition honors “employers who exemplify best practices in their workplace and who are committed to improving the quality of life for their employees.”

Applicants were evaluated on workplace diversity, hiring practices, benefits, decision-making, etc. Judges praised PSM’s strong benefits and culture, noting: “A 5% [401(k)] match is over the standard amount that most companies in our state offer at this time. Well done!” Another judge highlighted a unique benefit: “I have never heard of paid days off called ‘days of silence,’ but I would understand why your employees would appreciate that time to reflect and recharge.”

As noted above, full-time employees receive four fully paid “Days of Silence” each year—one per quarter—set aside for rest and time with Jesus. This intentional rhythm reflects the ministry’s Gospel-centered values and ensures staff are supported spiritually as well as professionally. In addition, PSM covers 3-6 mental health sessions annually.

Staff feedback underscored why PSM stands out:

  • “The team I get to do this work with and the folks we get to serve make this job the absolute best.”
  • “This is the Best Place to Work. Caring supervisors, supportive staff. Emphasis on self-care and work/life balance. Can’t imagine being anywhere else!”

At CareerSource Polk’s Annual Meeting & Best Places to Work Awards event, PSM was described as more than a workplace but “a purpose-driven community rooted in Gospel-centered values” where staff are valued not just for what they produce but for who they are.

Thank you, CareerSource Polk, and congratulations to all recipients!
