Parker Street Ministries will receive access to Surf Lakeland in the months ahead. We applied to be part of this City-sponsored grant that seeks to relieve damage from the Digital Divide that affects so many of the families we serve. Lines and access points will be provided and installed by the City staff and will be used by the after school program and other groups that utilize the buildings throughout the year.
Parker Street Ministries has already committed staff, a bank of 30 computers, and cloud-based software to narrow the divide. The Libertore Fund for Children has also provided funding for IT support so our systems are reliable for daily homework, research projects, and digital literacy education. This is the City’s first grant to help area nonprofits narrow the Digital Divide. More grants are expected in 2019.
